ExprEssie Review

Hello there! Welcome to another beauty review blog post, todays review is for the new express nail polish collection from Essie. Anyone who knows me in the real world can easily tell you they have likely NEVER seen me without nail polish. For about 5 years now I have not left the house without AT LEAST a clear coat on. There’s just something about a finished nail that completes an outfit and gives you a little extra boost of confidence! Typically my nail routine lasts an hour or two and is not finished drying for about half a day - since Essie is my GO TO brand, I was super excited to see a new quick drying product from them. Before I get into the specifics of my experience, check out the video below for a full breakdown of the product and some close up shots of how it preforms!

My usual nail polish (forgive me for not knowing the name of the product line!) comes in the squareish twisted bottle, also an Essie product. It is so great and * spoiler alert * preforms better than the express polish does for an everyday type look. It is my tried and true go-to because it gives my nails the closest finish to a salon type shellac or gel-nail. THAT BEING SAID, as stated above, it usually takes about half a day to fully harden and dry, which doesn’t always align for the days activities if you’ve got stuff going on - ENTER the need for a quick drying solution exprEssie. Introducing 40 new polishes, the colour selection was actually really trendy and presented quite a few bold colours! I initially had the mustard yellow in my cart but remembered valentines day was around the corner and a peachy pink would likely work a little better with any outfits I would be wearing in the near future, I also paired that with the top coat to test out two products in one review.

Overall impressions were that, the product is much RUNNIER than my typical formula. This is fine for a seasoned nail painter like me -BUT- if you’re new to the process of applying nail polish, I would stick to some of the more classic formulas as they don’t tend to bleed as easy. The colour was true to how it looks in the bottle, even after one coat! It goes on quite thin that applying a second coat would not be an issue. I did however only do one coat as it had really good coverage! Waiting only about 5 minutes my nails were dry enough to go in with the top coat (a process which I would usually wait 20+ mins for with my usual nail polish). The top coat was a lot like the coloured polish in that, it was quite runny and dried thin.

My final thoughts on the product - I DIDN’T HATE IT - but it didn’t leave me with that shellac/gel-nail look I’m accustomed to with my usual Essie nail routine. I think the express line still has it’s place, it’s the perfect solution to a quick paint and go kind of day. Within 10 mins of the top coat going on, I was able to hit my nails against the table and not see any noticeable marks. I will keep this product in mind for future activity packed weekends, but when it comes to my usual routine, I’m sticking with my all-time fav polish in the twisted bottle.
