7 Simple DIY Ornaments
It’s that time of year again! If your anything like me, not just any ornament makes the tree! I like ornaments with character and a natural flair. My personal decor style is a mix between modern farmhouse and bohemian, so naturally I’m all about the wood beads and pine cones! This style can be hard to find in most stores, and even when you do they tend to be overpriced. That’s why I decided to take it upon myself to make my own! Watch the full video below or read on to learn more about my 7 super simple DIY Christmas ornaments:
The first ornament I made was a round “Merry Christmas” loop. This one was a simple wire loop with a mix of wood beads and alphabet beads threaded on. To finish it off I tied a ribbon around the the knot, and cut the ends in a V shape (I always finish ribbon this way, gives it a high end feel).
The next ornament (and my personal favourite) was a wood bead strand using various sizes of bead. This one is so quick and easy, to make 10 only takes a few minutes!
Next was a very classic pine cone ornament. I paired it with my alphabet letters and spelled out “Noel”, this one could be easily done spelling someones name or a different Christmas phrase! I would recommend using a thinner string on this one so it can weave through the pine cone a little easier.
The fourth ornament I made was a dual colour bead strand (again using various sizes) and then I added a small bell detail and finished it off with a ribbon.
Next and probably the most time consuming was a macrame snowflake ornament. The process on this one was a little more complicated, I started with my thin string and looped the macrame cord around it (I did this 5 times to have 5 tassels). Then I trimmed them to the same length and added a few wood beads before knotting it.
The sixth ornament I made was a beaded feather. To bead the feather, I first had to tape the end (folding the tape over itself to create a small tab) and then I hole punched it to thread my string through. When sliding on my beads I like to twist the tape tab through the first bead and hide it.
Lastly was another pine cone ornament. Using another simple strand of beads, I decided to pair it with the largest pine cone I had to give a nice contrast in scale to my other ornaments.
These are just a few of the great designs I’ve come up with since making my own ornaments. By just buying a few simple materials you can create some really unique ornaments!
